ALBANY, Ga. -- A former Bible studies teacher at Albany's Sherwood Christian Academy has been sentenced to two years in prison on a child molestation charge.

Shawn Baxley accepted a plea deal Monday, but he did not acknowledge guilt. Baxley apologized in court to the victim and to his own wife and family.

Chief Superior Court Judge Willie Lockette ordered Baxley to surrender his teaching license and to register as a sex offender. The judge banished Baxley from Dougherty County and its neighboring counties while he serves an 18-year probation sentence.

Baxley left the academy after being charged in March. The victim was not one of his students. Besides Bible studies, he also taught geometry and coached a track team.
