Thieves Swipe Wallets, Keys From LA Fitness Gym Lockers

WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Two metro Atlanta police departments are on the lookout for a pair of thieves targeting members of a local fitness chain.

Woodstock and Sandy Springs police said a man and woman stole wallets and keys from gym lockers and then took the victims’ cars.

One victim who works out at LA Fitness on Eagle Drive in Woodstock said he couldn’t believe his wallet and car keys were gone. When he went out to the gym’s parking lot, his prized Chevy pickup had disappeared.

“It was gone,” said Brian Albrecht.

“I had to look like five times to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind. I couldn’t believe it was gone,” he said.

Albrecht told GA Daily News reporter Diana Davis that the thieves racked up more than $3,000 worth of purchases at a Target and Walmart in Woodstock.

The duo was caught on surveillance video.

“We actually see the male and female go out to the electronics register in Target and it happened around the same time frame as the purchases. I know they are shopping together. They are working together to put the things they receive into the vehicle and leave,” said Woodstock police Detective L. Ellerbee.

Davis was interviewing Woodstock police about the incident, she found out that Sandy Springs police were dealing with the same suspects and investigating two more car thefts at an LA Fitness on Mount Vernon Road.

Police said the male suspect has a tattoo on his left arm.

Though the stolen tuck from the Woodstock LA Fitness was found, the two vehicles stolen from the Sandy Springs clubs are still missing.

Police told Davis that LA Fitness does not take surveillance photos of people coming in and out of the door.

All the victims of the thefts did not padlock their lockers.
